Home Schooling - Curriculum
“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quiestest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.” - Pat Conroy
A valuable lesson I learnt along the ways was not to follow the curriculum in regimented way. Had it been up to me the entire curriculum would have gone out the window but they were going back to school when we got home and I didn't want them floundering and left behind all their peers.
I learnt that there were times when I could go blue in the face trying to explain something, eventually throwing my hands up in exasperation and putting it aside. A month later I would try it again and all of a sudden the child understood it as if it had known all about for years.
Don’t force it.
My 9 years old was doing a higher grade of Math than the 11 year old. The 11 year old was doing computer art that was amazing for her age.
Socialising
The children adored meeting other children so much and these were relatively rare along the way. Because of this when we got to places with other children I felt that they benefited more from playing that doing schoolwork so, in instances like this, work went largely by the wayside.
Curriculm
With regards what is on the curriculum, much will depend on the country you are coming from but quite apart from visiting your childs school there are dozens of online facilities not to mention your local government board of education that can give you the information that you need in order for your child to keep in line with the curriculum.
