Homeschooling - What We needed

″A traveler without observation is a bird without wings.” - Moslih Eddin Saadi

The schools tried to be helpful and give us various books but these weighed a ton and always had to be chased up to be packed or unpacked and I was worried we would damage them. 5 months in and out of suitcases isn't exactly the best way to care for books.

Looking back what I wished I had done was get all the children's homework scanned on to dvd (as a back up to carry) and installed directly onto the laptop. Then, as we travelled, I would have printed off the relevant sheets and then snail mailed them back home.

I did photocopy some of the relevant sections of some of the girls school books to carry rather than the books in their entirety.

We also bought a couple of books a long the way to keep things interesting.

That all said much of what we learnt was by doing what we did and it wasn't really book and paper learning. We talked and debated and discussed and experienced so many things. There is something about climbing a volcano that teaches you a whole lot more volcano's than a piece of paper and some coloured pictures.
