The Travel Zone

“People think that foot pain is a fact of life, but life is actually better than that. ”
- Richard Swersey

We made it a game and called it ‘Getting into the Zone’.

By the very nature of the trip many many many hours were spent hanging around airports, sitting in cars or buses or motor homes, sitting in airplanes. We had to work out how to make the best of it.

By the time we'd got to New Zealand, with 7 long distance flights behinds us, not to mention the hours and hours spent on the road we were old hands at the ‘Getting into the Zone’ and it made our lives so much easier. Several times people congratulated me on how beautifully behaved the children were and a pleasure to travel with.

What Happened in the Zone?

The hours flew by, the stress levels got less, we were all happier and simply more content. It was almost as if we were in our own time zone.

We started 'getting into the zone' way before we left, training if you like. We'd put out calm hats on and simply tell ourselves that it didn't matter, the mad woman in the car in front of us was just that - mad, the grumpy man pushing into the supermarket queue ahead was to felt sorry for, the fact that we couldn't park outside the house because someone had nicked our park was - like, no worries man. (Okay, I'm over that bit now!)

The practice helped and none of us perfected it but we certainly found having the right mind set really helped us enjoy the trip more.
